Archimedes, who lived over two thousand years ago, discovered the principle which you will learn about in this film. He was one of the first men to carry out experiments in order to test his ideas. Some of his experiments were the beginning of the science of hydrostatics : how liquid behaves when at rest. BASIC IDEAS: An object immersed in water appears to lose weight.
