Ice is sliced in two by wire creating high pressure.

An ice cube has a wire laid on top of it and about five kilograms suspended on either side. Within about twenty minutes the wire will cut completely through the ice but the rest of the ice cube is largely unmelted. The thin wire creates a very high pressure that separates the ice.
