Energy storage in a commercial capacitor. Loud bang!

Energy storage in a commercial capacitor. Loud bang! Brass Ball with insulated handle to discharge capacitor. A high voltage D.C. power supply is used to charge a large commercial capacitor. The power supply is set at about 2500 volts, and the capacitor is allowed to charge for a minute or so. The power supply is then turned off, and the capacitor is discharged with a metal ball on an insulating rod. The sound of the discharge is very loud! NOTE: Discharge capacitor before handling. If charged to 1000 volts: E = _QV = _CV_ = 16 Joules CAPACITANCE.
