High current melts the fuse wire. The fuse wire in this demo is rated to stand 5 amps (or 10 amps). The D.C. power panel is adjusted to deliver much more current. When the knife switch is closed, the current rises sharply, then the fuse wire melts with a flash of light and a puff of smoke. Thermocouple apparatus available upon request.
